Nashua Mobile flies the flag for SA charities
Nashua Mobile will be handing out beaded soccer balls and flag charms at the MTN Fan Parks as part of its Fly the Flag campaign.
The company has placed its orders for these items (over 6000 was ordered) with a Pretoria-based charity, namely Woman Against Rape (WAR) and another collective of bead workers, in a bid to support communities and people that are striving to improve themselves.
Nashua Mobile’s Fly the Flag campaign is a massive effort to put its national pride and support for South African sport on display as hundreds of thousands of international visitors arrive in South Africa. Nashua Mobile’s Fly the Flag campaign is supported by South African celebrities such as Nicole Flint (Miss RSA), John Smit, David Tlale, Rebecca Malope, Natalie du Toit and Arno Carstens.
Says Janine Rowley, founder of WAR: “WAR’s beading project allows many of the rape victims we work with start reintegrating into society, earn some income and turn their pain into creativity after experiencing the trauma of rape. The support of corporate sponsors such as Nashua Mobile is essential to keeping this project alive.” War provides counselling and a safe haven for rape and abuse victims.
The second organisation that Nashua Mobile is procuring the beaded items from is a group of bead workers from Pretoria. The small group of men work from a workshop that a businessman made available to them after he spotted them selling their goods on the street
“This order will help us to grow into a sustainable business. It will hopefully lead to even more corporate orders in the future,” says Paul Kunenqwa, the leader of beadwork collective. “We are excited to be supporting South Africa during this period as part of Nashua Mobile’s Fly the Flag campaign.”
Says Doug Mattheus, marketing director at Nashua Mobile: “As a truly South African company, we back Government’s “Fly the Flag” initiative to build public excitement for our national team. At a time when patriotism is running so high, it’s important to remember the less fortunate members of our community and to help them to enjoy their share of the South African dream.”
